The First Camp Was Just the Beginning

Some beginnings are so extraordinary that they remind us why we said yes in the first place.

Mexico’s first Swamp Camp was one of those beginnings.

With more than 160 campers and approximately 60 local and international staff, the camp brought together people from different places with one shared purpose: to create a space where young people could encounter Jesus, build meaningful relationships, and discover what it means to belong to something bigger than themselves.

And what happened was simply remarkable.

But the most meaningful part of the story was not just what happened during camp. It was what began to grow around it.

Parents were deeply involved, gathering for nightly prayer at 10 PM, preparing camp shirts, giving gifts to counselors, and contributing financially. Their involvement showed that the camp was becoming more than an event their children attended. It was something their families wanted to be part of.

The impact continued after the campers went home, too. Church services took place across different regions of Mexico City, creating opportunities for relationships and faith to continue beyond the camp setting.

Counselors were impacted alongside the campers. Local leaders grew in their experience and confidence, and the vision began reaching beyond Mexico as leaders connected with the wider Swamp Camp family.

Even the training process became part of that lasting investment. The counselor training was recorded, creating a resource that can help future teams prepare and learn.

The first camp did more than introduce Swamp Camp to Mexico. It helped lay the foundation for what could come next.

Now comes the important work of building on that foundation.

A successful first camp is something to celebrate, but a lasting camp culture takes continued investment. Local leaders need opportunities to grow. Counselors need to be equipped. Relationships with families and churches need to be nurtured. And the momentum created by the first camp needs the support and resources to continue developing.

We will do our best to honor your request; however, all donations are subject to the organization's Gift Acceptance Policy. The Organization will treat the donor’s designations as suggestions unless the Board of Directors has approved of the designations before receiving the gift.
