Sometimes, a young person needs more than an invitation. They need someone to make it possible for them to come.
Bhumika was the girl who smiled first, danced freely, and joined every activity with enthusiasm. But behind that joy was a weight she rarely spoke about.
Growing up in a family facing significant financial hardship, Bhumika knew what it meant to live with uncertainty. Her father had been paralysed for years, and her mother worked hard to support the family. Even attending camp was not something she could take for granted.
The previous year, her mother had sold her goats so Bhumika and her younger sister could experience camp. In their village, those goats represented far more than animals. They were a source of security, savings, and provision.
Her mother’s sacrifice made an opportunity possible. And the generosity of others helped Bhumika return.
But what happened at camp went beyond simply being able to attend.
Through shared meals, laughter, friendships, caring counselors, and time spent in God’s presence, Bhumika began to open up about something she had carried quietly for years: the feeling that she was a burden to her family.
At camp, she encountered a different message. She was seen. She was valued. She was not alone.
The moments that helped her begin to see herself differently were not necessarily extraordinary on their own. They were the small, meaningful experiences of being welcomed, remembered, and loved.
And that is why making camp accessible matters.
For some families, the cost of camp can be a barrier that keeps a young person from experiencing a community where they can grow in faith, build relationships, and discover their God-given worth. A gift toward camper support can help make that opportunity possible.
When you help a camper attend, you may never see the moment they finally share what has been weighing on their heart. You may never hear the conversation that gives them courage or witness the prayer that brings comfort. But your generosity can help create the space in which those moments happen.
Bhumika’s story reminds us that we do not have to know a young person’s entire story to make room for them. We simply need to be willing to help open the door.
Will you help make room for the next camper?
Your support can help another young person experience Swamp Camp, where they can belong, become, and grow into someone who will one day make room for others.
One week can change a life. Your generosity can help make that week possible.
